As we probably all know, on November, 20th 2014 Mathew Cody came to Mauro Sheridan to talk to grades 4th, 5th, and 6th about his book Powerless, which involves kids with incredible super powers. We liked the part in the presentation when Matthew Cody told us about his childhood, like when he told us about the snow baths his brother gave him.
Matthew Cody was born in St. Louis, Missouri. He now lives in New York City with his wife and young son. Besides novels, Matt has written for both DC Comics and Marvel.
In 2004 Matthew Cody started his first book, Powerless. Later, the rejection letters came all meanly saying no not a bit of encouragement. Only one politely said "We are sorry we aren't looking for books right now but we would like to see more of your writing in the future.” The only problem was it was addressed to a man named George!! Somewhere in the world a man named George probably got a rejection letter that says "You should get a better hobby. We don’t like your works so we’re going to say NO!!”
Lucky for students around the country, the book was eventually accepted and published!
Fun fact: Matthew Cody actually had to be tricked into reading when he was younger! Can you believe that? His brother, the same one who gave him snow baths, pulled off this amazing feat by reading a book aloud to him every day, then closing it at the climax! How devious is that?! Well, he did that for a while, except he read less aloud before closing it and giving it to Matt to finish on his own, until one day, when Matthew selected a book for his brother to read, he said “Great, take it and gedouttaheah.”
Well, believe or not, it worked! Then he couldn't stop reading.
Well, I hope you learned something new about your favorite author Matthew Cody today, and I hope it inspires you to be powerful!
