All About Got Lit? Journalism Program
Founded in 2010, The MASH News is brought to you by the student reporters who are a part of the Got Lit? Journalism After School Program at Mauro-Sheridan Interdistrict Magnet School for Science, Technology and Communications in New Haven, CT.
To promote literacy in a fun and interesting way, Mauro-Sheridan teachers Jodi Schneider and Caroline Apgar have brought journalist Alix Boyle to lead an after school program that reinforces reading, writing, critical thinking, cultural literacy and public speaking.
Boyle, a journalist and public relations professional whose work has been published in The New York Times, The Hartford Courant, Parents magazine and numerous other publications, coaches students in how to write newspaper articles, shoot photos, edit and create headlines. The result is The MASH News, a completely student-produced school newspaper.
Print-versions of The MASH News are produced and distributed each spring. The MASH News created a regularly updated online edition in 2015.
