At Mauro-Sheridan, the new kindergarten teacher is Ms. Christina DeLeone.
In the beginning of the year, she and her students were learning about each other. Ms. DeLeone told them that she was living with her fiancé.
“One of my students thought she I said Beyoncé!,” Ms. DeLeone said. “She was very excited at first because she thought I lived with Beyoncé.”
Ms.DeLeone has been teaching for three years now. The past two years, she has taught pre-k at East Rock Magnet School in New Haven.
“I love teaching children and acting as a role model to my students,” she said.
Her favorite part of the job is seeing her students improve in any area of development. “I love when my students enjoy school and are happy to come to school each day.”
She grew up and attended a school in East Haven, CT. For college she attended Southern Connecticut State University and graduated with her bachelor’s degree/teaching certification in early childhood education. Now she is in school the University of St. Joseph, completing her graduate program in special education.
Ms. DeLeone was inspired by her aunt. Her aunt was a kindergarten teacher and had a major impact on her life.
“She’s the reason I always wanted to work with children. I loved how much compassion she had for her students,” Ms. DeLeone said.
In her free time, she’s in the process of planning her wedding in May. She also reads, spends time with her family and friends, and shoots photography.
