Enter Ms. Amanda Santore, special education teacher!
Wait, let’s back up a bit, what is special education anyway?
Ms. Santore says it’s a form of extra academic support. She works with students in small groups to help them become successful in the classroom.
Before coming here, she taught as a long-term substitute at West Woods Elementary in Hamden. She also taught at Truman School in New Haven.
She was inspired to become a special ed teacher by her friend’s brother who needed extra help extra help in everyday living. Ms. Santore was intrigued by his differences and wanted to learn how to help people with learning differences live a more fulfilling life.
Amanda Santore attended University of New Haven (UNH), for a degree in criminal justice, but realizing she wanted to major in education, she switched to SCSU. The hardest part of teaching for her is the complexity of individual students, she said.
Welcome, Ms. Santore.
