Ms. Onofrio is enjoying teaching middle school math.
“I really like math and I really like teaching so I wanted to put them together,” said Ms. Onofrio. She is currently pursuing a Masters Degree in math.
“My favorite part of teaching is when my students understand the concepts and I see the light bulb switch on,” said Ms. Onofrio. She works with 6th and 7th grade students, teaching pre-algebra, grade 7 math, and grade 6 math.
Ms. Onofrio came to this school after teaching preschool in New Haven. Ms. Onofrio’s favorite subject to teach in preschool was science.
Staying organized is Ms. Onofrio’s hardest thing to do in teaching, she said.
Famous for her joke-telling, Ms. Onofrio shared a joke with the MASH News staff during her interview.
“What did the seed say to the math teacher when it grew up? Gee- I’m a tree! (Geometry, get it???).
Ms. Onofrio earned her undergraduate degree at Southern Connecticut State University where she majored in music theory.
Outside of school, Ms. Onofrio enjoys spending with her cat, Snickers, and in addition, she likes crocheting and playing music.
