By: Dhalia Brelsford and Sarah Murray These days, you see many students with a phone in school, but should they really be allowed to have it? Many kids at a young age are getting phones. Many people have different beliefs on when and why kids should have phones. Some students think phones should be allowed for social reasons, while others believe that they should be allowed for emergencies. When interviewed, many of the younger students said if they were allowed to carry a phone, they’d use it for games or emergencies. A lot of older kids would use it for more social reasons. Trey Comshaw, a sixth grader, believes that people use phones for nonsense. He believes that you should be responsible before you have a phone. Phones could also be used for bad reasons. Ms.Shindell, our technology teacher, believes that phones can be used for cyber bullying. Trey also believes phones can be used to cheat on homework or tests. Most people at our school think that kids should be at least 9 years old to have a phone. Mr.Esposito thinks that kids use their phones in the bathrooms. He thinks if kids have their phones, they kids should keep them in their book bags or in their lockers. “Some people in the upper grades who do have phones use them in their lockers and hallways because the teachers don’t let us use them in class,” said Keila Cruz, an 8th grader. Lexia G. Ceja personally said that she uses her phone too much on her own time. As you see, many people have different opinions on the topic. What do you think? | |
